DAVID DIXON

Marius

TOURED: Melbourne, Auckland, Perth, Brisbane

BIOGRAPHY:

David Dixon began his career in music and television as a schoolboy. In the late 1970s he performed on Brisbane's Hi Hello Show as a teen host and vocalist. In 1987, on his 16th birthday, David was taking a singing lesson and met Michael Szumowski and the two went on to form the band Indecent Obsession. Upon hearing early demos of their songs, Molly Meldrum started the Melodian label for young Australian talent. His bet paid off as the band went on to sell over half a million albums worldwide, scoring Number One hit singles throughout Asia, Japan and South Africa and Top 10s throughout Europe. The first single they wrote together, 'Say Goodbye', launched their career in Australia as a Gold single and went on to Top 20 on America's Billboard Hot 100. David spent 1987-1992 on the road performing with Indecent Obsession to audiences ranging from two people in an outback Queensland pub to 100,000 people in the first internationally- approved music tour of South Africa. In 1993 David took on the lead role as Joseph in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. While performing Joseph at nights, David spent his days recording the TV drama Home and Away in the character of Nathan. The Really Useful Company were so impressed by his interpretation of Joseph that on completion of the role for another year in Australia took him to the UK to perform the role. 1994-95 were also spent in the UK as a host for GMTV and The Big Breakfast. In 1997 David attained his full commercial pilot's licence and spent the year flying helicopters by way of a 'time-out'. David has spent the early part of 1998 reprising the role of Joseph in Hong Kong and Singapore. David comes to the production of Les Miserables with great delight as it has been his most favoured musical throughout his professional career, having seen many international productions along the way.

RECENT PROJECTS:

David moved away from the stage and landed a job flying a Long Ranger helicopter in Adelaide. He has been seen in Adelaide, singing with local cover band Jigsaw.
