DELIA HANNAH
Fantine
|
TOURED: Auckland, Perth, Brisbane
BIOGRAPHY:
Running away with The Pirates of Penzance was to be
the beginning of Delia's career in musical theatre. A twist
of fate turned a two- week holiday in Sydney into a two-year
engagement with the original Australian production of Les
Miserables, which for Delia included well over 100 performances
in the role of Fantine. Sydney became a home as she made the
unusual transition from understudy to leading lady, playing
Annette in Beach Blanket Tempest, Miss Santiago in
The Buddy Holly Story, Eva Peron in Evita and
an acclaimed performance as Florence Vassey in Chess.
In 1992 Delia won the Mo Award for Female Musical Theatre
Performer of the Year. However, it was the role of Rose Vibert
in the Australian production of Aspects of Love that
proved to be a career ground-breaker. A Mo Award nomination
was followed by Delia winning the Australian Variety Club
Award for Best Actress in a Musical. Delia then accepted an
invitation to open the UK touring production of Aspects
of Love opening in Birmingham. She returned to take up
the challenging role of Mrs Johnston in the New Zealand/Australian
production of Willy Russell's hit musical Blood Brotbers
and once again won critical acclaim and the Sydney Critics'
Circle Award for Best Performance in a Musical. Delia played
the role of Grizabella in The Really Useful Company's revival
of Cats, before touring Australia, New Zealand and
Asia with The Music of Andrew Lloyd Webber, performing
as the lead soloist with Anthony Warlow during the Sydney
and Japan seasons. She has just returned from New Zealand
where she played Anita in West Side Story. Delia's
television appearances include The Midday Show,
In Melbourne Tonight, Hey Hey It's Saturday and
Good Morning Australia. It is with great excitement
that she returns to the cast of Les Miserables.
RECENT PROJECTS:
Delia appeared as Grizabella in Cats Runaway. While
taking a break from Cats, Delia performed as the Baker's
Wife in the New Zealand production of Into the Woods.
After finishing her run in Cats, Delia recreated the
role of Mrs Johnson in the new production of Blood Brothers,
touring around New Zealand. Delia can currently be seen as
Aunty Em, and Glinda the Good Witch in The Wizard of Oz.
