MELISSA LANGTON
Female Ensemble
Mme Thenardier understudy
|
TOURED: Auckland, Perth, Brisbane
BIOGRAPHY:
Melissa has been performing since the age of 19 when, bored
with her university course, she spotted an ad in the paper
for auditions for a local amateur production of Annie.
This led to many productions for Melbourne amateur theatre
companies before being noticed by a theatrical agent in a
production of Chess at the National Theatre in Melbourne
in which she played the role of Svetlana. Thus began her professional
career with a role in the ensemble of Harry M. Miller's unforgettable
concert production of Jesus Christ Superstar, which
toured Australia in 1992. After that she delved into cabaret
and concerts, performing in Come To The Festival and The Ladies
of the Theatre at the Melbourne Concert Hall in 1993 and presenting
her very own cabaret show at Prior Engagements. She also musically
co-ordinated The Young Matildans' in the ABC's production
of The Damnation of Harvey McHugh. In 1994 she was
cast in Essgee Productions' The Pirates of Penzance
as a 'Fabulous Singlette' which would then lead on to The
Mikado and HMS Pinafore. These phenomenally popular productions
took Melissa to Australia and New Zealand over the course
of four years and were also committed to CD and video. The
girls in 'Pirates' also received a nomination for Best
Supporting Act at the 1994 Green Room Awards. These wonderful
shows led Melissa to meet Naomi Eyers, creator of The Fabulous
Singlettes who asked her to join the original group when
they performed in 1998. The group performed at The Melbourne
Grand Prix Ball and then went on to present their new show
The Fabulous Singlettes Get A Good Frockin' Tonight
at The Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Melissa's
other cabaret performances have included her own one-woman
shows: On Her Own, I Got The Music in Me and
Peel Me A Grape, and a three-hander, Tom, Dusty,
Petula and Burt at Chapel off Chapel. Concerts have included
Gilbert & Sullivan with The Ashton Smith Singers
(Melbourne Town Hall), Crusade (Melbourne Concert Hall)
and A One Night Stand (The Comedy Theatre). She has
done readings including Flora the Red Menace, Romance
Romance and Martin & Gina, and also regularly
appears as a soloist on Good Morning Australia.
RECENT PROJECTS:
Melissa was the 2001 Sydney Cabaret Convention winner, winning
a trip to New York to compete in the annual New York Cabaret
Convention. She is currently preparing for her cabaret show
at Capers in Melbourne in February.
