MICHAEL McCARTHY

BIOGRAPHY:
Born in Cork and trained at the London Academy of Music and
Dramatic Arts, Michael received his ALAM with Honours in 1986.
After performing with the Monfort Stage Company, he was awarded
a full scholarship to Stephens College in the USA where he
received a BFA (Bachelor of Fine Arts) degree in Theatre Arts.
He is also one of the few survivors of the Okoboji Summer
Stock Theatre (USA). Michael performed the role of Javert
in the recent Sydney season. MUSICAL THEATRE: Inspector Javert
in Les Miserables at the Palace Theatre (London), as
well as the first UK tour of Les Miserables to the
Palace Theatre (Manchester), the Point Depot Theatre (Dublin)
and the Playhouse (Edinburgh). Dr. Akizuki in Out of the
Blue at the Shaftesbury Theatre (London), Factory Foreman
and Combeferre in Les Miserables at the Palace Theatre
(London). In the United States: A Little Night Music
(Count Carl Magnus), The Baker's Wife(Dominique), Brigadoon
(Tom), Cabaret (Max) and Cole (celebrating the
life of Cole Porter). In Ireland: Camelot (Sir Lancelot),
Mame (Patrick Dennis), No No Nanette (Tom Trainer),
The Desert Song (The Red Shadow) and Rigoletto
(Cork Opera House).
THEATRE: A View from the Bridge (Marco, in the USA
and Edinburgh), Twelfth Night (Duke), London Cuckolds
(Mr. Loveday), The Hostage (Officer), Pajama Tops
(Leonard), Not Now Darling (Harry McMichael),
Little Women (Laurey) and Ah Wilderness.
CONCERTS: Recently performed as Javert in the Les Miserables
open-air Concert at the Chelmsford Festival drawing an attendance
of over 25,000. Who Could Ask For Anything More? -
a tribute to Ira Gershwin at the Royal Albert Hall and HD
Thames Television. Also at the Royal Albert Hall, Michael
played the role of Factory Foreman in the Tenth Anniversary
of Les Miserables as this was his first role in the
West End back in 1990. Other concerts include: the 1997 Proms
and the 1994 Proms in Ireland for RTE radio and television,
Mad About Musicals (National Concert Hall, Dublin)
for RTE radio, West End to Broadway (Torquay), 1994
Summer Concert Season (National Concert Hall, Dublin) for
RTE radio, Kander and Ebb Musical Revue (USA), Michael
McCarthy in Concert (Worcester and Rippon Cathedral),
A Musical Adventure (Wales), A Musical Gala (Halifax).
He has also performed for the World Cup Celebration at the
National Concert Hall, Dublin.
RECORDINGS: Michael McCarthy Broadway (his first solo album).
And soon to be released, a new recording, entitled Worlds
Away.
RECENT PROJECTS:
Michael is currently starring as Javert in the London production
of Les Miserables.
