BIOGRAPHY:
Karlis performed the role of Claquesous and on occasion Grantaire
for the 1996 International Les Miserables tour of South
East Asia and South Africa. During 1997, Karlis formed a new
cabaret act The Singing Detectives, along with Francesca
Arena and Peter McKay, and performed at Cafe K (Melbourne)
in October. He also appeared as Luka in Anton Chekhov's The
Bear at The Organ Factory, staged by acclaimed Russian
director Leonid Verzub.
From 1993 to 1995, Karlis trained as an actor at the Lucy
Freeman Studio under the tutelage of Lucy Freeman and Peter
Sardi, from New York's Stella Adler Conservatory and Lee Strasberg
Institute. Major theatre credits include: Harry M. Miller's
national concert tour of Jesus Christ Superstar, Oliver!
(Melbourne & Sydney), Evita, Chess,
Death of a Salesman and King Lear. In cabaret,
Karlis has played seasons at Mietta's and Prior Engagements.
Karlis is delighted to be once again involved with Cameron
Mackintosh and Les Miserables.
