WILLIAM ZAPPA

BIOGRAPHY:
In 1990, William was awarded the MO Award for Best Supporting
Actor in a Musical for his portrayal of Thenardier in Les
Miserables. He is delighted to be reviving the role for
this 10th Anniversary Production. After training at London's
Central School of Speech and Drama, William worked in England
as an actor and theatre director before coming to Australia
to take up the post of lecturer in Movement at the Drama School
of the Victorian College of the Arts in 1976. He has appeared
with all of the major theatre companies in Australia and played
leading roles in Skylight, Les Parents Terribles,Saint
Joan, The Threepenny Opera, The Gift of the
Gorgon, Siren, The Country Wife and The
Seagull for the Sydney Theatre Company. Other credits
include Gossamer (Ensemble), A Midsummer Night's
Dream, Hamlet, Translations (Melbourne Theatre
Company), Scenes from an Execution, The Frogs,
The Increased Difficulty of Concentration (Belvoir
St Theatre), Les Liaisons Dangereuses, Much Ado
About Nothing, Benefactors, Peter Pan, Richard
III (State Theatre Co. SA), Don Juan (Anthill and
Adelaide Festival), Fool for Love, No Man's Land,
Antony and Cleopatra, Dutchman, A Bit of
Rough, Bertolt Brecht Leaves LA, Comedians,
Long Day's Journey into Night (Playbox), Witolt
Gombrovitch in Buenos Aires (La Mama). Commercial theatre
credits include Scrooge The Musical (Princess Theatre
Productions), 42nd Street (Helen Montagu Productions),
The King and I (Gordon Frost/AFCT), and Les Miserables
(Cameron Mackintosh). William has appeared in the films Head
On, Amy, Diana and Me, The Phantom,
The Zone, My Entire Life, Crush, Quigley Down
Under, Celia and Mad Max II. His many television
appearances include roles in Big Sky, Water Rats, Correlli,
GP, Rafferty's Rules, Mission Impossible, House Rules, The
Shiralee and Women of the Sun, for which he received
the Penguin Award for Best Actor. He has directed productions
for Playbox, VCA and West Theatre Company and has worked as
a fight arranger for STC, MTC, The Australian Opera, VSO,
STCSA, VCA and NIDA and runs workshops on Movement for Actors.
RECENT PROJECTS:
Bill has appeared in several productions for the Sydney Theatre
Company - Corporate Vibes and A Month In The Country.
He also appeared in the Sydney and New York productions of
The White Devil. In 2001 he appeared with the Bell
Shakespeare Company as Marc Antony in Antony and Cleopatra.
In 2002, he takes on a number of projects, among them, productions
for the STC and Bell Shakespeare.
