Back in Australia, this time on the West Coast
in Perth. Unlike the original production which was at His
Majesty's Theatre, this production was housed by the Perth
Entertainment Centre.
The venue left alot to be desired. The PEC is
more suited to concerts and large arena style productions.
The stage was alot bigger which meant slight changes in direction,
the orchestra pit was further out from the stage than usual
and didn't have a net over it. Front row was a fair way back
from the stage and due to the nature of the venue, large in
size (one cast member labelled it 'a barn') and an extremely
high roof the sound was not the best - the sound had to be
turned up high and radio mics had to be worn further down
the forehead.
The Perth season ran for a limited run and ended on 23rd
May 1999, moving on to the final stop in Brisbane.
