Martin trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. Since
then he has appeared in South Pacific
and Sinbad The Great Adventure at
the Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch, Mick in Straight
Up at The White Bear in Kennington, followed by Derek Jarman's
film Edward the Second. He performed
in the original workshop production of Sunset
Boulevard at the Sydmonton Festival, created the role of
Tig in Rain Dogs at the Prince of
Wales, a musical based on the songs of Tom Waits, and appeared in
the British premiere of Nine at the
Royal Festival Hall.
Martin played Buddy Holly in Buddy
for two years, both on the U.K. Tour and at the Victoria Palace
Theatre, followed by a spin-off tour of Holland and Belgium. This
involved making many T.V appearances which included The
Royal Variety Performance, Children
in Need, The Late Late Show,
and Pebble Mill. He played Mike Connor
in the national tour of High Society,
featuring on the cast recording, appeared as the Prince in Snow
White at both Westcliffe and Basingstoke, and spent time
in Channel 5s Family Affairs as Lee
Warren. Since then Martin has played a season at Perth Rep, playing
Henry Gow in Fumed Oak, Toby Cartwright
in Ways and Means, Bert Bentley in
Red Peppers, Charles Bingley in Pride
and Prejudice, and Axel Hammond in The
Nerd, followed by the National Tour of Four
Steps to Heaven, and Jack Carter in Idiot
Wind at The Old Red Lion.
In 1999, Martin joined the touring production of Les
Miserables, playing Grantaire, the Factory Foreman and understudying
the role of Javert. He left Les Miserables
to originate the role of Gabriel Tapi de Celeyran in Lautrec,
a new musical by Charles Aznavour.
Since Lautrec, Martin has been engaged
as a standby Javert in Les Miserables
at the Palace Theatre, London and returned to the Perth Rep as Ali
Hakim in Oklahoma. More recently,
Martin has moved away from musical theatre, playing Poseideon/Menaleus
in Women of Troy at The Orange Tree
in Richmond, Lent in Julia Pastrana
at the Battersea Arts Centre, Buckingham and Surrey in Shakespeare's
Henry VIII at the Bridewell Theatre,
London.
When not performing on stage, Martin manages his recording studio,
spending a majority of his time arranging and producing songs for
songwriters.
